π₯ Ingredients (tap to check off)
- 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs) pears (washed, cleaned, and sliced or kept whole/halved as desired)
- 800 g granulated sugar
- 400 g (approx. 1.7 cups) water
- 1 to taste (optional) Nabat (crystallized sugar saffron/rock sugar)
- 1 pinch citric acid
- 1 to taste cinnamon (sticks or ground)
π¨βπ³ Step-by-Step Instructions
Prep the Pears
Wash, peel/clean the pears, and slice or prep them however you prefer (whole, halved, or neatly sliced).
Macerate with Sugar
Pour 800 g of sugar over the pears in a large pot and let it rest for a bit so they release their natural juices. Add the 400 g of water.
Simmer Setup & Aromatics
Place the pot on low heat, then add the cinnamon, a pinch of citric acid, and Nabat (crystallized saffron rock sugar) to taste.
Slow Cook with Periodic Rests
Simmer on low heat for about 4 hours. Periodically turn off the heat and let it rest for 15 minutes during the processβthis helps the syrup thoroughly soak deep into the pears.
Jar It Hot
Once the preserve thickens, turns a gorgeous glowing amber hue, and is fully ready, pour it hot into clean sterilized jars and seal tightly. Perfect to serve alongside a cozy cup of tea!
π― Storing Preserves & Jams
Unopened Jars: Store tightly sealed jars in a cool, dark pantry or cupboard away from direct sunlight for up to 6 months. The natural fruit pectin, sugar, and gentle acidity naturally preserve the fruit.
Once Opened: Keep refrigerated in the glass jar with the lid firmly secured and enjoy within 3 to 4 weeks for optimal aroma and flavor.
π³ Recommended Kitchen Equipment
Kitchen Note: Having the right kitchen tools ensures foolproof results. We recommend items tested in our own home kitchen.
